Autumn has well and truly arrived here in Berlin, thick clouds have descended upon the city and my memories of the warmer climes are dissipating away as quickly as the trees are dumping their foliage of deep reds and burnt ambers onto the ground. Despite the impending doom and gloom of winter, autumn is also one of my favourite seasons as my musical taste meanders towards the more atmospheric and reflective side of electronic music.
Following a two year hiatus, Soundman Chronicles mark their return with an exquisite deeper than deep ‘In The Dust‘ EP shimmering with Basic Channel-like tendencies. Our pick ‘Old Fashioned’, the longest track on the record, ebbs you gently into the world of London via Leeds based producer K-Lone. Warm pads and a dub techno framework span across ten whole minutes. It radiates a feeling of wrapping yourself up in a warm jacket whilst sipping on a hot toddy (a mixed drink made of liquor and water with honey). If you’re a fan of the sounds of STL and of the artwork designed by Madaline Gardner, ‘In The Dust‘ EP should be an instant addition to your record collection.
