Dekmantel proudly announces family and label member Makam’s first full- length album ‘Than Sadet’, which drops on November 17. Accompanied by a music video to the track ‘Mai Pen Rai, Dekmantel works together with up and coming choreographer Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair of internationally successful House of Makers (with dancers from the Dutch National Ballet) and directors Mr. Boonstra and Bas van de Poel amongst many others. A new touch to the yet growing label.
“How I would describe the music? As tropical emo mystic dance.” Blanken’s thoughts describe his ongoing search for fresh sounds, textures and rhythms, which has lead him to Than Sadet - a gorgeous piece of work that takes his sound into new directions. No club-record, but a refinement of Makam’s sound.
The music on “Than Sadet” is highly tactile, with an emphasis on the surroundings of the environment in which it was created. Whilst the first sketches were made on a secluded beach in Thailand, the inspiration that Blanken got from this magical place clearly reflects in the end result that is “Than Sadet”. Tracks like ‘Mai Pen Rai’ are representative for the album, as Blanken tried to create an introspective record that does what the island did to him: putting life into perspective.
It’s that track that brought new ideas into life and made Dekmantel operate hand in hand with quality directors Mr. Boonstra and Bas van de Poel, up and coming choreographer Matthew Pawlicki-Sinclair of internationally successful House of Makers (with dancers from the Dutch National Ballet) and Jack Featherstone amongst others for a unique music video. Result? A hypnotic visual video where modern dance meets electronic music, whilst the rhythm of the track takes you on Blanken’s journey and reveals his story. The collaboration was made possible by Stimuleringsfonds Creatieve Industrie - Dekmantel is proud to bring it to life.
