Mood-based record store Objects & Sounds launch Christmas collection

Christmas bundles include collaborations with RVNG, Kit Records, Leaving Records, Melody as Truth, and Record Magazine

Launched earlier this year, Objects & Sounds is the world’s first record store which is specially curated based on feelings, not genres. Through their bespoke selection of records, Objects & Sounds brings the personal approach of the record store clerk to the digital sphere through a mood generator that allows you to dig through their collection based on your current or desired emotional state.

A project that’s centered around sharing and collaborating, Objects & Sounds extends the concept through to their editorial platform where they host their ‘Mood Talk’ and ‘Mood List’ series as a way of showcasing the stories behind the records they love. Interviewing world-class labels and artists, some of the previous features include Suzanne Kraft, Stefan Schneider, Le Motel, BAKK, Kit Records, and released today, a very special interview with Gigi Masin to tie in with the reissue of his and Johnny Nash’s collaborative EP, ‘Postcards From Nowhere’.

For the holiday season, Objects & Sounds will be collaborating with a fellow Ghent-based multidisciplinary artist and candle maker Ann Vincent Studio for 4-holiday sets around the moods of Calm & Collected, Lost in Dreams, Taking it Easy, and Floating on Clouds. There will also be limited-edition Christmas cards included in the sets designed by cornerstone Kit Records artist Adam Higton.

The specialised store will also be teaming up with several labels and platforms, giving them an opportunity to create their own mood bundles at varying price points. Confirmed so far are RVNG, Kit Records, Leaving Records, Melody as Truth, and Record Magazine. Throughout the month of December, the store will be donating a portion of their sales to LIVE2020, a local platform that helps to distribute funds to the live music sector, which has been badly hit because of COVID-19.

Founded by two music fans in Ghent, Belgium, the site filters its stock into sections such as ‘a sense of melancholy’, ‘lost in dreams’, ‘having a blast’ and ‘calm & collected’. Including those mentioned above, the store’s catalogue exclusively features independent labels like Efficient Space, Smalltown Supersound, Music From Memory, Beats In Space, Running Back and Erased Tapes. “We don’t come from a music background,” says co-founder Alec Seynaeve. “I am a web developer and my partner Aimee is into branding and storytelling. Not coming from a music background gives us a somewhat different perspective on things. Instead of classifying music according to genres, we feel it’s more natural to classify music into moods, so we defined eight moods where we often feel ourselves to be in.”
