Swedish musician Olof Dreijer remixes Emmanuel Jal’s ‘Ti Chuong’, released on the 30th October via esteemed label Rabid Records. The track was premiered by Olof in a live-streamed DJ set on the day and followed a stream of The Knife’s 2014 Coachella performance as the band celebrate their 20th anniversary. Broadcasted across Facebook, YouTube and Twitch, Olof’s DJ set will soon be available to restream on demand here.
‘Ti Chuong’ is taken from South Sudanese artist and acclaimed Peace Activist Emmanuel Jal and his sister Nyaruach’s 2018 album ‘Naath’ who were separated during their childhood under extreme circumstances. With South Sudan still suffering from years of war and oppression, Emmanuel and Nyaruach pulled together the project with the aim of bringing their village’s sounds to the mainstream.
This is the second rework Olof has provided from Emmnauel, having previously remixed ‘Kuar’ in 2011 via Innervisions. Olof has also remixed the likes of Nine Inch Nails, Fever Ray, Mari Boine and Mehdi Bahmad and recently produced and remixed fellow Swedish artist Zhala’s latest single ‘Holes’ on Robyn’s Konichiwa Records.
Olof is most known for his work as one half of the electronic pop duo The Knife formed with his sibling Karin Dreijer. Outside of the band, Olof has been involved in different cultural projects where music plays a central role in communicating political beliefs. His solo project, Oni Ayhun, plays with stereotypical ideas and norms about gender in dance and experimental music.
