Grabbing the #2 spot here’s what RA had to say about the festival
Since it launched in 2013, Dekmantel Festival has evolved in subtle but important ways. It started out with a lineup focused on house, disco and techno. Skip forward three years and the festival now has a far broader musical programme. In 2016 it will host its biggest-ever opening concert with some ambitious bookings—think Afrobeat master Tony Allen, Burnt Friedman playing alongside Can’s Jaki Liebezeit and a Raster-Noton showcase—spread across several venues, including the waterside EYE Film Institute. (EYE will also host the festival’s first daytime conference, including a series of live panels and RA Exchanges.) But this expansion has been achieved without comprising what made the festival so popular in the first place. Dekmantel’s heart remains in the green surroundings of Amsterdamse Bos, where you can again expect the kind of unhinged lineup that’s made this one of the best festivals in electronic music.
RA Pick: Beautiful Swimmers tend to nail the vibe in the leafy environs of Amsterdam Bos.
