Heading out to the desert, Simian Mobile Disco took with them some meagre supplies and a mountain of vintage kit. Honed during those endless desert nights, their new album ‘Whorl’ is one of the group’s most distinctive, physical experiences to date. All propulsive techno beats and twinkling melodies, ‘Tangents’ has more in common with Jon Hopkins, say, than French electro.
Shedding their pop pretensions, Simian Mobile Disco are going all in on rather more adventurous fare. ‘Blake’s Hitch’ sits on the flip, and is rather more soothing, but for now let’s bask in ‘Tangents’.
