S.A.M. - Dream State Of A Bellmaker
Release Date: 13th February 2017
Format: Vinyl, Digital, CD
Since Copenhagen-based producer S.A.M. released his first EPs in 2007, he has become widely known in the club scene for his classic and dubbed-out house cuts. He quickly proliferated into minimal, experimental and ambient releases while keeping his signature sound in a soulful house niche.
S.A.M. aka Samuel Andre Madsen is now Introducing his debut album as the eighth release on his own label Delaphine. The 66-minute debut presents eight tracks of soothing electronic-acoustic experimentation aimed at exploring machine music with a human feel of composition.
Samuel explains, “I set out to experiment with the classic, analogue gear used in most techno productions - I wanted to use it to make something humane with nods to my personal interest in jazz but also with more or less direct references to my own personal life. It was a struggle to decide if I revealed too much of myself with this album, or if I should just dare to show a fragile side of me. In the end I didn’t see a reason to hide from truth.”
Touching on a variety of personal themes, each production builds an immersive structure as lush pads rise from the swamp of his signature evolving percussions tumbling over the grid, interlocked, but ever-changing. Subtle displacements in the textures of this artful techno reveals the sonic shape of a thousand unspoken words.
The patient listener is rewarded a look into both the technical and emotional nuances of S.A.M’s sound as Dream State Of A Bellmaker ultimately brings listeners through its darker curves and into hopeful rediscovery.
